Summer break is in full swing, which means my house is loud, my grocery bill is offensive, and apparently… tornado season wanted to join the fun.
Last night, while it was still daylight, the rain came down hard. Then my phone started screaming.
Emergency Alert.
Imminent Threat.
Take shelter immediately.
A reasonable person probably grabbed flashlights and headed for the safest room.
Me?
I took a screenshot, sent it to my sister, and texted, “We’re going to sleep. God has us. Night-night.”
Now, before y’all come for me, yes—we take storms seriously. But when I woke up this morning to sunshine, I couldn’t help but think about faith.
Sometimes I convince myself my faith is lacking because I don’t always read my Bible at the same time every day. I miss church more than I’d like. I don’t always look “disciplined.”
But then I thought… I talk to God all day long.
I ask Him for wisdom. I thank Him when I’m painting. I lean on Him when I’m afraid. I whisper prayers while driving, grocery shopping, and trying to figure out what to cook for three children who somehow become hungry every 17 minutes during the summer.
The truth is, I can’t get through a day—sometimes not even an hour—without Him.
Maybe that’s what Planted Not Buried has always been about.
Being planted doesn’t mean storms won’t come. It means your roots have found Someone stronger than the wind.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1
So yes… if the sirens sound again, I’ll head to the safest place in the house.
…Right after I text my sister.
🌷 If this resonates with you, I hope you’ll check out my memoir, Planted Not Buried. It’s a reminder that storms may shake us, but they don’t have to uproot us. And if, like me, you find yourself whispering prayers throughout the day, my Radiant in Bloom Prayer Magnets are designed to keep God’s promises where you’ll see them most—on your refrigerator, workspace, or anywhere you need a daily reminder that He is near.
Keep blooming.
